About Pattie Young
I started out as an editorial cartoonist for my hometown newspaper while in high school. After attending numerous classes in the San Francisco Bay area, I found I was drawn to shape and space. Attending the Academy of Art in San Francisco, Ca I was recruited by K.Q.E.D. as a graphic designer for advertising, set design and on air preparations. After holding numerous art positions in a wide variety of mediums, I moved to Idaho in the mid 90s working for an advertising agency in Boise. Transferring my art and background into metal over the last 10+ years has been fulfilling.
My art is often inspired through my attraction to discarded items. I look for the story that a shape, piece of rust or discarded item is trying to tell and then am able to resurrect it into art. When something has been used extensively it tells a story and acquires the personality of its user. The more damaged by age and wear, the deeper the connection and inspiration I find.
When I see that I have reached a viewer’s senses, be it through contemplation, humor or the inquisitiveness of being drawn to reach out and touch a piece of my art, I appreciate knowing that its inspiration has been shared.
The majority of my work is commission pieces for private collection and businesses. Over the last few years I have had the opportunity to mentor students, creating and donate pieces to support many donation based projects, 4H and schools.
Considering myself a reclaimed artist, I am thankful for the opportunity to share the life and visual story in each pieces creation..
